Vergil saw her determination, and promised her that he would become a shinigami with her. When that day finally happened, they were both placed on squad 2. One day, years later, they were sent on a mission to take out a group of hallows attacking the living in the area. They arrived to meet an Arrancar. Upon feeling their spiritual pressure, they both retreated, to no avail. He cornered them. Vergil opened the Senkiamon, and waited for the woman to go through, but she shoved him through, closing it so the Arrancar couldn't follow him. That was the last time he ever saw her, and he swore from that day forth that he would kill that Arrancar even if he had to die to do it. He moved up the ranks and eventually became the captain of squad 3.
